Jewish Poverty changes each
and every day...
The needs of people we serve continue to evolve as society
changes and the solutions require greater sophistication than
ever before.
A decade ago, the internet, digital phones, virtual medical
examinations, touch computers for the elderly, and hi-tech
durable medical equipment would have seemed like unlikely
methods to combat poverty. Today, they are integral components
of the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty - Met Council.

Still, "the more things
change, the more they remain the same." With all the
world's dramatic changes - from globalization to technological
innovation - poor and near-poor people still need help with
buying food, paying the rent, getting a job, and day in and
day out dealing with life's inevitable crises.
As Met Council evolves and
grows into a twenty-first century state-of-the-art non-profit
- with all the creativity and innovation such an evolution
requires - our most important task remains to ensure that the
hungry are fed, that the weak and frail are cared for, that
the homeless are sheltered, and that those who are able to
work are helped to find employment.
We are fortunate that our
citywide network of Jewish Community Councils remain our front
lines in the neighborhoods that need us most. Each council
makes it possible for us to spread our reach a little farther,
to have a genuine impact in the lives of tens of thousands of
poor New Yorkers who might otherwise never have been
identified. |
